Download. Print. Obtain signatures. Get notarized. Mail in. Repeat. That’s how we can get The Honest Judge Amendment on the ballot.
What would the amendment do? Transfer jurisdiction over judicial misconduct to the Independent Ethics Commission. Why? To remove the conflicts of interest in our current process for the discipline of judges. A commission with 4 judges on it selected by the Supreme Court chief justice and rules for the commission made by the Supreme Court has resulted in a 97% dismissal rate since 1993. Enough. By removing the conflicts of interest we restore accountability for violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct. And the amendment would also create sunshine by making judicial discipline proceedings public upon a finding of probable cause. It would be a win-win for all of us.
The “Section #” at the bottom center of the pages changes with each download. So please don’t copy blank petitions. Print a new one if you need an additional petition. Every section we turn in to the Secretary of State must have a different number.
The deadline for signatures (98,492) is June 10, 2016. But please forget that date immediately and realize we need signatures now. We have clerical work to do as the signatures come in, so we need them returned as soon as the petitions are completed. You can mail in from 1-24 signatures. If you mail in signatures, we’ll hopefully make the ballot. TOGETHER, WE CAN DO THIS!
