Step 2 done for The Honest Judge Amendment. We have a title!

We met with the Title Board this morning. The Title Board is required to determined whether any proposed initiative 1) meets the single subject requirement, and if so 2) set a title. The board determined The Honest Judge Amendment met the single subject requirement because it simply transfers the power to discipline judges to the Independent Ethics Commission.

The Title Board also set a title, which is what voters will see on the ballot should the initiative make it on the ballot. What voters would see, if we obtain enough signatures, is what follows: “Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution and the Colorado Revised Statutes concerning regulation of judicial conduct and, in connection therewith, transferring jurisdiction over judicial discipline and disability to the independent ethics commission from the commission on judicial discipline and specifying that such jurisdiction includes review of claims of violations of the Colorado code of judicial conduct and claims of disability, as well as complaints that were previously dismissed by the commission on judicial discipline?”

Any opponents have 7 days to file an objection. If no objection is filed, the title will be final and we can start to obtain signatures. If an objection is filed, then the title process continues.

We’re glad it went well today. And hopefully we’ll be able to put petitions on our web site soon so anyone can . . . Download. Print. Obtain signatures. Get Notarized. Mail in. And Repeat.
